GUYS! Did you know today was National Doughnut Day?!? Me neither - until Girl told me a few minutes ago! (Sadly, it's too late to get a free donut now, at least for me because Girl doesn't want to drive to town... #PartyPooper) But the delicious news is I DO know what a donut tastes like because I had one in May!!! Mmmmm, it was super good and sweet. Kind of like a marshmallow, only with frosting and a hole in the middle. Off to eat some supper and dream of donuts!!

Recent eats: • A meat mixture! (It was what Girl had left for me in the freezer) Two kinds of chicken and hamburger.* • Little apples from the tree in the yard – one of my favorite foods! Plus you can also roll on them and get that fresh apple scent on your fur, and play with it until you get tired of that, then eat it! • Marshmallows • Real liver* (Thanks Missy!) • “Hollywood Stars” yogurt flavored treats • Cut up chicken strips from Martain's!* [*Note from Girl: These are higher value treats for Noah, so he usually only gets them in places where we're working/training that have more distractions.] Recent meets (places I've gone): • Our local Tractor Supply Company store (TSC) to train. Ivy went too. I love going because the people there pet me lots, and talk to me and even give me big treats sometimes – though Girl wishes they were smaller. • A TSC store that was a ways away to visit a Karen Pryor clicker training class. There were big dogs and little dogs, and one really tall dog that made me a little nervous, and one of my puppies Bella was there, and Timber, Ivy's brother, was there too and his puppy Lexi! The people there were nice also, and I sure was tired when we got back home. Recent photo Girl took of me: Girl calls this the "Running on 10 grams of sugary protein, and 1/2 a tank of gas" photo. Shee took it while we were going to the clicker training class. I did not eat that bar, though it smelled yummy!
Life on the farm in April has been busy and good.
It's been filled with with new plants, new animals and new adventures; with both good times and hard times. 4H projects have been started, a nursing home's been visited, and we've enjoyed eating a few suppers on our back patio with the company of songbirds and dogs. I love Noah and there's no doubt about it that he loves me back. Since Valentine's day is just around the corner, I decided to compile a list of yummy looking, love themed dog cookies for you and your furry friend to make. While I've never tried these, some of them look so cute and simple, that I'm tempted to go on a grocery run just so Noah and I can see how we like them! If you make any, be sure to let us what you and your pooch thought about them (did you love them, or did you not?) in the comments!
♥ Girl PS To me, these are such an encouraging verses about God's love for us! "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:35; 37-39 Has this ever happened to you? You're trying to get out the door with your dog go to a class, park or just a normal training session and suddenly you realize you're out of packaged dog treats... trust me, it happens. Usually I end up standing in the kitchen wondering "what should I take?!??!" While you could make a batch of homemade dog treats, that would take too much time if you're trying to leave and arrive on time. So what do you do? I'll tell you what I do, I use what I have! Here's a list of six common ingredients that you probably already have in your own cupboards, that your dog will enjoy and you can use as treats in a pinch! 1. Mini Marshmallows What's not to like?! Their soft, sweet and a Noah favorite. I like to buy and use treats that are small and soft, so I can treat quickly and Noah can swallow them in a timely manner. Often I use kitchen scissors to snip the mini marshmallows in half so they're even smaller. Something else I appreciate about mini marshmallows is that they're not sticky or slimy like other foods I've tried, which another reason they're at the top of this list. 2. Cheese and Lunch Meats You probably have some of one or both of these on hand 99% of the time! I know we do. For cheese you could use: string cheese, a block of cheese or squirt cheese. Lunch meat could be whatever you've got! If it's pepperoni, just make sure not to give too much because it contains garlic, and too much garlic can be bad for dogs. (but I've heard dogs love the flavor!) 3. Peanut Butter Bread While a little messy, what dog doesn't love a good ol' peanut butter sandwich? If this treat feels a little too messy, try taking along a cloth or wet wipes to wipe your hands. This classic sandwich will have your pooch beggin' for more! 4. Breakfast Cereals You like yummy breakfast cereals, so who knows, maybe your dog would enjoy the same brand as you! Be careful though as too many sweets aren't good for either of you. (same goes for the marshmallows.... Noah and I should probably cut back on them a little :) Also don't feed your dog cereal that has chocolate or raisins in it, as both are poisonous to dogs. 5. Cooked Eggs High in protein and easy to scramble, eggs are a good choice when looking for a healthy, quick treat for your pup. You could also try cooking them in the microwave. 6. Left Overs Look into your fridge. Chances are you've got something you'd rather not have for the third night in a row that would be new to your dog. Left over meat (no bones) or casseroles could be delicious options, though make sure there's not large amounts or pieces of onions in it, because they too can be toxic for dogs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I hope this list inspires you to use what you have as treats, but you don't have to just use my suggestions, I'm sure you can find many more great ideas yourself, and if you do, Noah and I would appreciate hearing them, as we're always looking for quick treats to use on the go! Blessings! Love Girl (with suggestions from Noah☺) P.S. Along with chocolate, here's a quick look at what common foods are poisonous to dogs so you can keep your furry friend healthy and safe. |
