A few weeks ago I had the enjoyable opportunity to watch a video shoot of one of Noah's puppies. And of course I went, because cameras and puppies are a few of my favorite things!

The day after Agility, we had Obedience, which was long, because there were about 85 participants total, and it was quite warm, but also fun.
While we waited for our turn in the ring, Missy and I worked with the dogs using our clickers and some liver that we'd recently cooked. Both Noah and Ivy enjoyed training with us, and of course eating the treats. Whoops! How'd it get to be August all ready?? Well I guess that just means a two part post of our July events! A few weeks before fair started, Noah and I went to a facility named Bashor, because they wanted people from our 4-H Dog Club to demonstrate what dogs with training can do, and also teach the kids that were there for a summer camp some basic care that needs to happen when owning a pet. We were there for around six hours, and both had an enjoyable time talking to the kids, and showing basic obedience skills. I was working with another guy my age, and his dog Dallas, who is part Golden, part Collie.
Ever wondered how our 2015 puppies are doing? Now you can know! This is the second of the puppy posts, and if we're sent more updates soon from the other owners, we will post them too. (read the first post to greet Levi's brother Quinn)
Enjoy meeting the now 1 year old, handsome Levi! Read part one! §§§ At 7:15 the next morning, Oma was up and around, waking us up, and getting us breakfast. Us dogs went outside for a sniff of morning air (I highly recommend the 7:46 air - so fresh and misty smelling!) Oma said Girl would be home in the afternoon, so I tried to think of something to do until then. That took me a looong while, and I may have fallen asleep while thinking. But at 8:22 I decided that I would be helpful and bring out some laundry. But no one was around to take it away from me, so I just smelled a dirty sock for a bit. Ivy suggested we have a jumping contest, but it's not fair for Buddy and I since Ivy can jump insanely high, and Buddy doesn't have good knees. Buddy thought we should sneak into the kitchen to find a snack, but of course that wouldn't work because: A. We'd get into so much trouble. And B. Oma was sitting right there, so she would obviously see us. We settled on a game of hide and seek, which didn't last long because Buddy decided to stop looking after 30 seconds for us, and take a nap. And I was in a tight spot, so I got annoyed because my legs got cramped and Ivy was hiding where she always does: behind the stove. So it really wasn't fun at all. Oma went out to check on the farm animals and after a while her sister and brother in law came over, so that was a fun surprise. Of course I barked, but once I realized they were friendly I stopped. They have a big black poodle at their house named Olive, so they don't mind petting us and having us pant on them. Once they left, Buddy rested in Oma's room and I took a snooze on the couch, since I wouldn't be allowed to once Girl got home. Soon I heard a van door open and Girl came in! I was so happy to see her, but she was kinda busy feeding the lambs and putting away her luggage. She took Ivy and I out back to play, and then brushed me a little. I asked if we were going somewhere, and she said to a "cruise in". "What is that? Is there boats?" I asked. "You'll see. Now stand still while I get this tangle out." She replied. Soon she was done with the grooming, and getting ready to go, and we walked (along with Missy, Girl's mom and her brother, Boy) down the road a little ways to a church. "THIS is a cruise in?!" I said. "Yup! What do you think Noah?" Girl said. Well, to tell the truth, it just looked like a few tractors and shiny cars parked in a yard. I got my picture taken next to an old fire engine, which was pretty cool! Girl made me practice my obedience skills while I was there, so I didn't really get a good long sniff in. I was watching a few kids, and hoping they'd walk over to pet me, when Girl said we should go home. I went - though I wanted to stay longer and see if I could eat some popcorn, but a big rain cloud was coming and we could hear the thunder. Girl told me to go potty before it rained, then she went outside to shut some of the barn windows. Missy, Boy and Girl's mom came home soon after, to help put away the lambs, and baby cows. (we have three calves now!) And boy, oh boy, did it rain! Then it got cooler, and the sunset was really pretty! I was glad Girl was home, and lay near her while she ate a late supper and read a book. But next time she goes away, (especially to a lake!!) I want to go too, because it gets kind of boring without her. And humid too, (though I'm not sure she can control that a lot, except for turning the air conditioner on).
Gotta go train now! This afternoon, I filled my pocket with dog kibble, grabbed a clicker and set out on a walk with Noah. On bike rides it's mostly feeling the cool breeze, the thrill of Noah when he runs beside me and taking care of him (ex. watching out for cars, going slow).
But on this walk I noticed things. Life on the farm in April has been busy and good.
It's been filled with with new plants, new animals and new adventures; with both good times and hard times. 4H projects have been started, a nursing home's been visited, and we've enjoyed eating a few suppers on our back patio with the company of songbirds and dogs. |
