But on this walk I noticed things.
As I saw the rolling plowed hills that belong to my great uncle, with their earthy hues of brown, the woods behind them contrasted against the blue and white sky, my heart sighed and I thought:
“This is my home.”
I kept walking, Noah heeling obediently, but cheerfully at my side.
There was more to notice. Trash thrown out of car windows. Painful weeds, like thistles and nettles. And stinky, swamp areas.
Like me, this world has many beautiful things – but because of sin, many ugly things too.
I know the only true beauty and goodness in me comes from Jesus – and I found myself thankful.
Thankful to be living on this county road with some friends as neighbors. Thankful for the sunny day and my sunshine dog. Thankful for the beautiful, ordinary things that He somehow uses to bless and teach me.
Matthew 6:20-21
"But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Colossians 3:1-2
"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
